William Arnold Patterson, 88, of Wooster and formerly of Sterling, passed away Friday, May 1, 2020 at Akron General Medical Center after a brief period of declining health.

Bill was born Oct. 5, 1931 in rural Holmes County to the late Russell and Maude (Arnold) Patterson and was a 1949 graduate of Clark High School.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951 – 1955.  On Feb. 15, 1958 he married the former Carol Haas and they have called Wayne County their home ever since.  He was a graduate of Wooster Business School and had worked as a bookkeeper at numerous businesses in Wayne County.  Bill loved wood working and tole painting for the past 35 years and has made many beautiful items including a special Christmas ornament each year which he loved to share with family and friends.  He loved the Lord and his family and attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  He never missed an opportunity to attend the activities of his grandchildren or play a few games of Rook with his brothers.  He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Surviving are his wife Carol, children and their spouses, Sue and Glenn Rumburg of Wooster, Ray and Renee Patterson of Jackson Springs, NC and Jennifer and Kurt Weaver of Wooster; grandchildren, Eric Rumburg, Matt (Kim) Patterson, Rebecca (David) Few, Chad (Dr. Jill Mohr) Mullins, Corey Mullins, Bryce (Lindsey) Weaver and Rhen (Carson Thomas) Weaver; great-grandchildren, Miriam, Isaac and Eli Patterson, Anna and Lillian Few, Ridge and Sage Weaver and another baby to arrive in September; brothers, Pete of Fort Wayne, IN, Calvin (Bert) of Gulf Shores, AL, John (Darlene) of Coshocton and Sam (Karen) of Coshocton; brothers-in-law, Bob (Pat Mapel) Haas of Coshocton and David (Carol) Haas of Lancaster, NH and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by grandchildren, Rachel Patterson and Brian Rumburg, sisters, Mildred Casey, Faye Wagers and Juanita Bucklew and brothers, Robert, Charles, Bernard, Alvin, Gail and Jerry.

Private family services will be Tuesday, May 5th at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Stephen Olsen officiating. The service will be livestreamed and available through the church website.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com  Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, PO Box 426, Smithville, OH 44677.
