Terence O'Hare Obituary

Terence Noll “Terry” O’Hare, 79 years young, of Orrville, sadly passed away on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022 at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland.

Terry was born in Junction City, OH on July 25, 1943 and was the son of James Donald and Kathleen C. (Noll) O’Hare.  On Aug. 11, 1979 he married Karen E. Ferguson at St. Mary Catholic Church in Wooster and she survives.  Terry graduated from St. Aloysius Academy in New Lexington where he was an outstanding athlete having played football, basketball and ran track.  In 1961 he was the State Low Hurdles Champion and he continued his basketball and track career at the University of Akron.  In 1968 Terry qualified for the 1968 Olympic Trails in the Decathlon and in 1996 was inducted into the University of Akron Sports Hall of Fame.  He began his teaching career at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School and in the fall of1971 Norwayne High School became his home where he would teach until retiring in 1995.  He coached boys basketball, girls basketball, girl’s track and cross county over the years at Norwayne and at the time of his passing, he was in his 48th year as the Girls Track Coach and in his 26th  year as the Cross Country Coach.   Coach O'Hare led his teams to many Wayne County League Championships as well as district and regional championships having won 22 WCAL Girls Track Championships, 3 Regional Girls Track Championship and was Runner-up 6 times, 4 WCAL Boys Basketball Championships and several WCAL Cross County Championships. The number of runner’s he helped get to the State Meet is numerous.  In 2010 he was inducted into the Wayne County Sports Hall of Fame for his coaching accomplishments.  Terry enjoyed traveling, golfing with his friends and talking about sports and history.  He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Orrville.

Terry loved his family and he will be missed by his wife, Karen; his son and daughter-in-law, Brenden and Christina and their children, Kian, Kali and Emma; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Michael; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenny and Paula O’Hare and Tim and Paula O’Hare; sister and brother-in-law, Jenny O’Hare and Steve Romine; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Pam and Nester Young, Denise and Mike Molter and Greg and Patty Ferguson and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn  Lehman O’Hare in 1969, his parents, Don and Kathleen and his in-laws, Newt and Beulah Ferguson.

Friends may call Sunday, Oct. 2nd from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the gym at Norwayne High School. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Oct. 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Wooster with burial following in Creston Maple Mound Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Norwayne Track or Norwayne Cross County Funds, 350 S. Main St., Creston, OH 44217.  Murray Funeral Home in Creston is handling arrangements.
