Sofija Atanasov, 87, of Creston and formerly of Rittman, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 after a period of declining health.
Sofija was born in Strumicia, Macedonia, Yugoslavia on Dec. 1, 1933 to the late Ivan and Tinka (Buhova) Izev and married Nikola Atanasov on March 8, 1953. He preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 2019 having been happily married for 66 years. The family moved to Rittman in 1968 and Sofija worked for RCA Canning and later retired from Federal Packaging in Orrville. She was a member of Rittman United Methodist Church and she enjoyed gardening and time spent with her family
Surviving are her two sons, Mike (Sherri) Atanasov and Novko (Julie) Atanasov, both of Creston; two grandsons, Tyler Atanasov and Travis Atanasov; two granddaughters, Kristy Atanasov and Lindsey Atanasov; 2 brothers, Christo Izev of Columbus and Donco Izev of Fort Lauderdale, FL; 3 sisters, Martha Josifov of Rittman and Guna Vasileva and Magda Andonov both of Macedonia and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and brothers, Mitko and Simon Izev.
Graveside services will be Saturday, March 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Rittman Cemetery with Pastor Ruth Trigg officiating. Due to the Covid pandemic, there will be no calling hours.
