Shirley J. McKelvey
It is with great sadness that we, the McKelvey Family of Fredericksburg, announce the passing of our Mother, Shirley Benson McKelvey on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021. She was 92 years young.
Mom was born on Nov. 21, 1928 in Fredericksburg to Charles and Beulah (Tracey) Benson and graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1946. She happily married our Dad, James McKelvey on Jan. 1, 1949 and they were married for 59 years until Dad’s death on Oct. 6, 2008. From this marriage came 4 children, Sue (Alan) Amstutz who preceded her in death , Jill (Jack) Rohr of Mount Eaton, Kelly (Connie) McKelvey of Fredericksburg and Tami McKelvey of Wooster; 10 grandchildren, Adam Amstutz, Matt (Tonya) McKelvey, Megan (Brent) Bernhart, Brittany (Matt) Martie, Shawn (Wendy) McKelvey, Mollie (Aaron) Conley, Jordan Calame, Amanda (Steve) Herald, Zach (Rebecca) Amstutz and Andrew (Catherine) Rohr and 26 great- grandchildren. Mom is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Miller of Fredericksburg as well as nieces and nephews. Her sister, Pat Speelman and brothers, Bob and Randy Benson preceded her in death.
We believe Mom would say that the best time of her life was the years she and Dad spent at their Englewood, FL home which they bought sight unseen and enjoyed for over 30 years. Many happy times and friendships were forged there. Mom was a talented artist who enjoyed decorating, cooking, reading and playing golf. A competitive card player, family and friends will cherish the many card games of “Pay Me” around the Florida kitchen table.
Rest in peace Mom, we love you.
