Sherman Hines Obituary

 

 

Sherman E. Hines, 92,  of Mansfield, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022 at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital after a period of declining health.

Sherman was born in Kenova, WV on May 20, 1929 to the late Sherman E. and Carrie (Chrisman) Hines and attended Ceredo High School.  He married the former Alka Marcum who preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 2020.   Sherm had worked for the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad and Conrail for 40 years having retired in 1989 and he also worked at McIntire Basket Factory, Shriner’s Sheet Metal and Winkler’s IGA in Creston during those years.  He had made his home in Creston prior to moving to Mansfield in 1971 and he enjoyed collecting railroad memorabilia and trains.

Surviving are his children, Jeanne (Ron) Houghton of Orrville, Rick (Jan) Hines of Mansfield and Gayle Botdorf of Galion; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, Cathy Rinehart,v a half-brother, Ira “Buster” Hinds and a cousin, Betty Ingram.

Friends may gather at Murray Funeral Home in Creston on Thursday, Jan. 20th at 1:00 p.m. with a graveside service following at 2:00 p.m. at Maple Mound Cemetery in Creston.  Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com
