Ruth A. Glessner, 92, a life resident of Sterling, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020 surrounded by her family at Akron City Hospital after a recent stroke.
Ruth was born Sept. 30, 1927 in Sterling to the late Isaac W. and Mabel A. (Perrenod) Maibach and was a 1945 graduate of Sterling High School. She attended Wooster Business College and on Nov. 12, 1950 she married Donald E. Glessner who survives. She had worked at the family business, Maibach’s of Sterling, for over 60 years retiring in 2009 and was active in the Sterling Community. Ruth was an active member of the Sterling United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was active in the United Methodist Women and served on many committees and held various offices. She was a member of the Sterling Fire Dept. Auxiliary, was active in Norwayne Athletic Boosters and was faithful in attending her children and grandchildren’s school and sporting events. Over the years she enjoyed vacationing at the family cottage in Harrison, MI and trips to Europe to discover her family heritage. Ruth enjoyed reading and working in her vegetable garden and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her husband, Don; sons and daughters-in-law, Dick and Patty Glessner of Sterling, James and Ricki Glessner of Sterling, Jack and LeAnn Glessner of High Point, NC and Dale Glessner of Sterling; 5 grandchildren, Mandy, Tony, Jenni, Josh and Alexis; 3 step-grandchildren, Mandi, Tyler and Wyatt; 3 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alma Maibach of Rittman and Janet Anshutz of Sterling and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Blanche Maibach, Edward and Arlene Maibach and Elmer “Tug” Maibach.
Services will be Saturday, Feb. 1st at 1:00 p.m. at the Sterling United Methodist Church with Rev. Matt Weaver officiating. Burial will be in the Sterling Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall, 11484 Steiner Rd., Rittman and one hour prior to services at the church.
