Roy Schlegel Obituary

 

Roy W. Schlegel, 87 of Shreve, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021 at Wooster Community Hospital after a period of declining health.

Roy was born on the Family Farm near Shreve on March 25, 1934 and was the son of the late Dale A. and Margaret (Cutter) Schlegel. He graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 – 1956 having been stationed in Germany for 18 months. Roy Schlegel married Fonda Jane Pfouts on April 7, 1957 and she survives.   Roy was a dairy and beef cattle farmer all of his life having owned and operated Dalroy Farms.  In recent years, he enjoyed checking out the farm and supervising farm operations on his Kawasaki Mule.  He was a member of Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church, the Holmes County Farm Bureau and served on the Holmes County Soil and Water Conservation Board.  Roy enjoyed watching Cleveland and Ohio State Sports, Gun Smoke and Old Westerns and in his younger years he was a horseman who competed in barrel racing and other rodeo horse events.

Surviving are his wife of over 64 years, Fonda; his five children and their spouses, Kurt and Pamela Schlegel of Shreve, Shirley and Jim Croskey of Shreve, Steve and Delores Schlegel of Holmesville, Cheryl and Chris Nelson of Apple Creek and Ryan and Hilary Schlegel of Shreve; grandchildren, Nathan and his wife Katie Schlegel, Juliane and her husband Jordan Mast, Matthew Schlegel, Hannah Schlegel, Jimmy and his wife Lauren Croskey, Rachel and her husband Jeff Pendlebury, Sadie Schlegel, Hailey Schlegel, Natalie Schlegel, Christa Nelson, Holly Nelson, Stacie Nelson, Valerie Schlegel and Alex Schlegel; great-grandchildren, Micah, Titus, Cara, Brenna and Kenzie Schlegel, Emma and Charli Mast, JJ and Rozi Croskey and Vincent Pendlebury; a sister, Anna Mae and her husband Richard Shoemaker of Dublin and a sister-in-law, Nola Schlegel of Canal Fulton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Schlegel, a grandson, Kyle Schlegel and a brother, Robert Schlegel.

Services will be Friday, Sept. 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church with Pastor Nathan Schlegel, Rev. Darcy Miller and Rev. Jesse McDonald officiating.  Burial will be in Fredericksburg East Cemetery.  Friends may call from 12:00 noon until time of services.  Please wear a mask out of courtesy to the family.  Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church, PO Box 259, Fredericksburg, OH 44627.
