Robert Dale “Sport” Sterling, 81, of Fredericksburg, passed away at home on Friday, July 16, 2021 after a brief period of declining health.
Bob was born on Nov. 7, 1939 in Millersburg to the late Dale B. and Lovina (Miller) Sterling and was a 1957 graduate of Waynedale High School. He served in the U.S. from 1963 – 1965 and on Jan. 26, 1967 he married the former Jeannette Reed who survives. Bob retired from Dale James Ford after 42 years of service and enjoyed raising cattle on the family farm. He was a life member of the Fredericksburg American Legion and a member of NRA. An avid hunter, he enjoyed trips to Colorado, Wyoming and Montana and was willing to help and share stories with kids during Ohio Deer Drives. Bob could be found working in the garage and telling stories with his old time friends and will be missed.
Surviving are his wife, Jeannette; sons, Charles of Fredericksburg and Robert and his wife Kelly of Worthington, IN; grandchildren, Cheyanne Sterling and fiancé’ Garth Martin, Dakota Sterling and Dhyanna Webster; great-granddaughter, Avery Martin and Jocelyn Minks; brother-in-law, Jerry Adkins of East Liverpool and his faithful little companion, Jasper.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, Amy and a sister-in-law, Janet Adkins.
Private family services will be held on Thursday, July 22nd at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with burial following at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
