Robert O'Donald Conn, Sr.

Robert O’Donald Conn, 91, of Wooster passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023.

Bob was born on June 27, 1931 in Pearl City, Hawaii and was the son of Theodore and Mary (Alameda) Conn.  After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Bob and his brothers were evacuated in March, 1942 to Mount Hope to live with grandparents.  He later became a resident of Berlin where he graduated from Berlin High School in 1951.  Bob joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 during the Korean War where he served with the  Military Police and Honor Guard.  He was assigned to President Eisenhower’s Honor Guard and was sent to Bermuda for the Big-Four Conference which was something that he was always very proud of.  After being discharge from the Air Force in 1955, Bob began his work career at the Timken Company where he retired as Plant Manager after 38 years of service. A member of the Masons, he served as Past Master of three lodges, Millersburg Masonic Lodge #126 F.&A.M., the Knights Templar #48 in Wooster and the Scottish Rite in Canton.  Bob was a faithful member of Parkview Christian Church where he had served as an Elder and was a member of the Hospitality Ministry from 14 years.

On Sept. 4, 1953, he married Charlotte R. Morrison and they were happily married for nearly 70 years.  Also surviving are their two children and their spouses, Robert Jr. and Yangxue “Anna” Conn of Wooster and Pamela and Don Gaddis of Fredericksburg; 5 grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew and Lisa Gaddis, Seth Gaddis, Jessica and Matt Franks, Paul and Jen Conn and Erin and Jacob Mahaffey; 9 great-grandchildren, Brady, Kailee and Tanner Franks, Blaine, Clark and Elahna Gaddis, Daybria Yerian and Trinity and Charity Conn and a great great-granddaughter, Eva Yerian.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Howard, Theodore, Leroy, Wilford and Merwyn.

A family services will be held Thursday, Feb. 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with burial following a Fryburg Cemetery.  A Memorial Service for Bob’s Church Family and Friends will be held at Parkview Christian Church on Thursday, Feb. 2nd at 3:00 p.m.   Memorial contributions may be made to Parkview Christian Church, Burbank Rd., Wooster, OH 44691 or to LifeCare Hospice, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
