Richard A. Sohar, 80, of Creston, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020 at his home after a period of declining health.
Richard was born Oct. 29, 1939 in Wadsworth to the late Joseph and Esther (Whitman) Sohar and was a 1957 graduate of Norwayne High School where he played football and baseball. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Packaging Corp. of American in Rittman. He was a member of the Wadsworth Eagles, the Rittman Moose and the K of P Lodge in Sterling. Richard bowled on several area leagues and enjoyed fishing. He and his wife Kathleen (Metheney) Sohar, who preceded him in death on March 30, 2020, enjoyed camping over the years and are now camping forever in Heaven.
Surviving are his children, Vicki (Greg) Cherilla of Creston and Joe Sohar of Wooster; his step-children, Brenda Watts of Rittman, Steve Metheney of Creston, Sarah Reber who cared for him for the past two years and John Metheney of Creston; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Jo Sohar of Rittman and 3 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, Brenda Massaro and a sister, Joyce Mair.
Services will be Tuesday, Oct. 13th at 1:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with burial following in Creston Maple Mound Cemetery.
