Richard Hartzler Obituary

Richard A. "Dick" Hartzler, 68, of Creston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020 at University Hospital in Cleveland after a brief illness.

Richard was born Oct. 13, 1951 in Wadsworth and was the son of the late Ernest and Pauline (Winkler) Hartzler.  He was a 1970 graduate of Norwayne High School and on June 12, 1972 married the former Karen Miller who survives.  Richard was employed at Burkey Excavating where he drove truck and formed special friendships.  He attended Chippewa Church of the Brethren and had served several terms on the Norwayne Board of Education.  Richard enjoyed riding his motorcycle, watching sports and attending his grandkids sporting activities. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and he will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Karen; his children, Brad Hartzler of Rittman, Tonia Hanshaw of Creston, Scott (Rachel) Hartzler of Bastrop, TX, Jody (Adam) Aubrey of Sterling and Lane (Lanae) Hartzler of Sunbury; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Kenneth (Jane) Hartzler of Marshallville, Benjamin Hartzler of Rittman, Catharine Hartzler of Rittman, Lynell (Ronald) Palitto of Wadsworth, Dean (Jan) Hartzler of Rittman and Nancy Bauman of Sterling and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Sandy Hartzler.

Services will be Saturday, Jan. 25th at 10:30 a.m. at Chippewa Church of the Brethren, 10230 Honeytown Rd., Creston with Dick’s pastor and friend, Pastor Bill Eley officiating.  Burial will be in the Apostolic Church Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston.  Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com  Memorial contributions may be made to the Chippewa Church of the Brethren.
