Richard Garn Obituary

 

Richard E. “Dick” Garn, 87, of Wadsworth, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. 

He was born in West Salem on March 15, 1935 to Wesley and Lois (Shakley) Garn and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1952 – 1955.  On Sept. 9, 1972 he married Karen Yannayon and she survives.  Dick had worked as an auto mechanic, electrician and as an apartment maintenance man over the years.  His last job was delivering parts for Medina Auto Parts which he loved doing in retirement.  Dick enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking and he loved collecting trains.

Surviving is his wife, Karen of 50 years; daughter, Tina Bates-Tarro; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Phyllis Hackett and the Yannayon family including John and Kathy, Tom and Carolyn, Richard and Don and Peggy and their children who were the world’s best nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Milano, his parents and a sister, Kay Shadley.

Friends may call Friday, June 3rd from 5-7 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston where Jim Yannayon will conduct services at 7:00 p.m.   A family burial service with Military Honors will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wadsworth Meals on Wheels, 215 High St., Wadsworth, OH 44281.
