Martha Shook Obituary

Martha G. Shook, 83, of Rittman, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, January 20th at The Gables of Green in Uniontown, Ohio.

She was born May 30, 1937 in Ripley, Ohio to Evola (Knight) and John Ammons.  She married Robert Shook on September 29, 1963.  They were married for 56 years and he precedes her in death in 2019.

She was a loving mother to daughter, Jill (Greg) Pepper of Akron, OH; sons, Michael (Beth) Shook of Morton, IL and Mark (Emily) Shook of Owensboro, KY.  She was a proud grandmother to Madeline, Marissa and Morgan Shook of Owensboro, KY and Cameron, Molly and Amanda Shook of Morton, IL.  She is also survived by brothers-in-law,  William (Tamara) Shook of Seville, OH and James (Diana) Shook of Avon Lake, OH; nephews, Dr. Steven (Cathy Franz) Shook of Beachwood, OH and Kevin (Megan) Shook of Bexley, OH and niece, Natalie (Timothy) Bennett of Avon Lake, OH.

Martha graduated from Shreve High School in 1955.  Martha retired from the Rittman Towne Manor after working with Meals on Wheels for 10 years.  She previously worked at the Rittman Trading Post newspaper.  However, her favorite job was being a Mom.  She was the matriarch of their home, kept things running smoothly, and always had a home cooked meal on the table.  She volunteered in many capacities whether it be with the Rittman Athletic Boosters or The Rittman Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary.  Martha was always a helping hand and rolled her sleeves up to assist in any way she could.

Martha was a member of Seville United Methodist Church where she had been a member of the Memorial Committee.  She has also been a member of the 2x2’s Couples Group, The United Methodist Women and the Friday morning prayer group.   Martha loved the church and was a devoted member and put her faith as an important part of her life.  At the end Martha was comforted by listening to familiar hymns and was especially fond of “How Great Thou Art.”

Martha and Bob were proud parents of their 3 children and loved supporting them in all their endeavors and were proud that they all were college graduates.  Some of her favorite memories are family camping adventures, trips to Kentucky Lake and The Rocky Mountains.  They had a permanent camp site at Meadow Lakes Campground that provided many fun memories.  The family wishes to thank the staff of The Gables of Green for their professional and very loving care.  The family also thanks Homestead Hospice for their compassionate care of Martha and her family.

Visitation will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Seville United Methodist Church, 74 W. Main Street, Seville, Ohio.  The funeral will follow at 11 AM.  Burial will be at Mound Hill Cemetery in Seville, Ohio.  Murray Funeral Home in Creston is handling arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Seville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in Martha’s name.
