Martha Schmid Obituary

Martha E. Schmid, 92, of Wooster, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2020 after a brief period of declining health.

Martha was born Sept. 28, 1927 in Doylestown to the late Albert and Hazel (Hoff) Woyat and was a 1945 graduate of Rittman High School.  On Oct. 18, 1947 she married Fredrick E. Shane and he preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1988.  On July 28, 1992 she then married Dale A. Schmid and he survives.  Martha retired from the Packaging Corp. of America in Rittman after 30 years and had made her home in Sterling and Big Prairie prior to moving to Wooster.  She was a member of the Bigelow United Methodist Church in Big Prairie and enjoyed cooking, playing cards and bingo and spending time with family.  She was also an avid bowler.

Surviving are her husband, Dale; her daughters, Connie (Rodney) Rush of Wadsworth and Kathleen “Kitty” (Sam) Patterson of Creston; 5 grandchildren, Karla (Chris) Reedy, Shannon (Steven) Jordan, Nick Patterson, Stephanie Schaffter and Tyler Shane;  and 5 great-grandchildren; Dale’s children; Lynn (Tom) Ransbottom of Upper Arlington, Joan Schmid of Wooster, Kevin (Lori) Schmid of Shreve and Greg Schmid of Canada; her additional 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Lucille Dietry of Doylestown, Louise (Bill) Tester of Lorain and Rosemary (Larry) Goodman of Clinton, Ivan Woyat of Rittman and Kenneth (Cathy) Woyat of Sommerville;  sisters-in-laws, Carol Shane, Kahtleen Shane, Odema (Paul) Gingerich, Kay Osborn and Joan Croop and a brother-in-law, Jim Keck.

She was preceded in death by husband, Fred Shane; a son, Michael Shane in 2000; a granddaughter, Cassandra Shane; brothers, Ira, Charles and Glenn; sisters, Ruth Moore, Gladys  and Art Zimmerman, Mildred  and Paul  Huth, Irene Keck and Barbara and Jim Copley and in-laws, Herbert, Harvey, Harley, Dean and Charles “Bill” Shane, Ed Diety, Laura  and Nester Young, Lois  and Hugo Gingerich.

A family graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 26th at 1:00 p.m. at Rittman Cemetery with Rev.
