Major McCourt Obituary

 

 

Major R. McCourt, 86, of Waterford, OH passed peacefully into the Gloryland on August 15, 2019 at his home with family by his side.

Major was born on June 15, 1933 in Webster Co., WV to Oscar and Blanche (Cochran) McCourt.  After moving to Ohio in 1949 he was employed by General Motors, located in Brook Park where he retired after 30 years of service.  Major married Patricia A. Viall on Oct. 2, 1954 in Creston where he resided for most of his life.  He will be remembered as a fun-loving family man, a great storyteller and a “Walking Song Book”.   Major was always singing and enjoyed playing the guitar and banjo.  He shared his passion for Bluegrass, Country and Gospel music with all who knew him.  He will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends. 

He is survived by his wife, Pat, daughters, Beth (Ted) Schwertfeger and Debra McCourt; grandchildren, Amy (Matt) Wacker, Miranda Stahl and Jeremy (Miranda) Halpin; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Shianne, Lydia, Lillie and Dessie Wacker, Damarlea Skipper, Dravin Halpin and Austin Kinder; sisters, Geneva (Ronald) Rook and Jenean Fetzer and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Bessie, Erma and Pauline; brothers, Gordon, Hartzell, Burton, Fulton and Lorine and grandson, Andrew Halpin. 

Private graveside services were held at Maple Mound Cemetery in Creston.  Pallbearers were Jeremy Halpin, Miranda Stahl, Matt, Brandon and Shianne Wacker and Austin Kinder.  Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com
