Kenneth Dean Shook, 86, of Sterling, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Summa Barberton Hospital after a period of declining health.
Ken was born on Nov. 1, 1934 near Sterling to the late Russell K. and Frances J. (Springer) Shook and was a 1953 graduate of Wadsworth High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1959 and on April 16, 1960 he married the love of his life, the former Bernice K. Fowler who survives. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox after 30 years of service and had made his home in the Sterling area most of his life. He was a member of Ambassador Baptist Church in Wadsworth and the Ohio Horseman’s Council. Ken was a horseman who always raised horses and enjoyed rodeos. He collected Zane Gray novels and watched the Lawrence Welk Show but his family was his greatest joy and he leaves behind many wonderful memories and stories.
Surviving are his wife, Bea; his children, Corey Shook of Sterling, Frank (Joyce) Shook of Rittman, Arlen (Carole) Shook of Spencer, Karla (Terry) Phelps of Shreve, Carolyn (Kevin) Keiper of Wadsworth and Grace (Tom) Cromer of West Salem; 12 grandchildren, Sarah Shook, Clairice (Jason) Cowgill, Deana Shook, Seth Keiper, Kyle (Brittany) Keiper, Adrian Keiper, Caitlin Keiper, Darin (Becca) Phelps, Ashley (Taylor) Sherman, Zachary (Micaela) Cromer, TJ Cromer and Emily Cromer and two great-granddaughters, Vivian Shook and Adeline Sherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jay Kenneth Shook, a grandson, Jay Russell Shook and a daughter-in-law, Suzanne Shook.
Services will be Tuesday, July 6th at 12:00 noon at Ambassador Baptist Church in Wadsworth with Pastor Mike Decker officiating. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the church and from 11:00 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday.
