Joshua Schertz Obituary

Joshua David Schertz, 42, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Life Care Hospice in Wooster after a hard fought battle with cancer. 

Joshua was born on June 24, 1981 in Orrville to Stephen and Esther (Graber) Schertz. Joshua attended Triway High School and after graduating in 2001 travelled around until starting as an associate in Walmart in 2008. While living in Wooster, he attended the Wooster Church of the Nazarene. In his free time Joshua enjoyed playing board games and video games, watching Ohio sport teams, and spending time with family, many of whom knew him as Joshy-Josh and Applesauce.

Joshua is survived by his mother, Esther “Beth” Schertz of Wooster; step-mother, Therese Schertz of Georgia; brothers, James Schertz of Georgia and Israel (Jennette) Schertz of Columbus; sister, Marie Felicia of New York; nieces and nephews, Alenna, Rebekah, Elizabeth, Lillian, Elias, Quinton, Violet, Tansy, Mary, Daegan, and Aurora; great-niece and nephew, Bella and Josiah; his fur children Moska and Benedict and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen and grandparents Vernon and Betty Schertz and Mary Jeanne Schafrath.

Services will be Saturday, March 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Wooster Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Nate Ward officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. A private family inurnment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Sterling.
