Joseph Maibach, Jr., 88, of Holmesville, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster after a period of declining health.
Joe was born on the family farm at Sterling on Sept. 23, 1932 and was the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Emma (Ramsier) Maibach. Joe served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 – 1956 and on July 24, 1952 married the former Donna Mae Calame. Donna preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 2019. Joe was a farmer and his true passion was his horses. He was a member of the Belgian Draft Horse Corp. of America and the Buckeye Horse Pullers Assoc. of Ohio. He showed and pulled with his horses at area fairs and events and was well known throughout the area and in the Amish Community where he resided for the past 45 years. He was a member of the Holmesville American Legion and was a Life Member of the V.F. W. in Seville. Joe was an avid coin collector.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Don Hamilton of Holmesville; grandsons, Joe Hamilton and his fiancé Jamie Kollar of Orrville and Justin Hamilton and his wife Jennifer of Columbus; a brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Dixie Maibach of Sterling and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; brothers, Fred, Alpha, Robert, Arthur and John Maibach and sister, Margaret Calame and Mary Ellen Saylor.
Friends may call Wednesday, July 28th from 5-8 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston where friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
