Jean Bricker Obituary

Jean Marie Bricker, 100, of Wooster and formerly of Fredericksburg, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Danbury Senior Living in Wooster after a brief period of declining health.

Jean was born Oct. 1, 1920 near Fredericksburg to the late Harry and Minnie (Scott) McKelvey.  She was a 1938 graduate of Fredericksburg High School and attended Muskingum College.  On May 23, 1942 she married James Robert Bricker and he preceded her in death on July 29, 1971.  Jim and Jean moved to their family farm in 1957. They were members of the Wayne County Farm Bureau, and Jean served as a 4-H advisor.   It was because of Jean’s strength, determination and love for the farm that she was able to stay there until age 90 when she moved to Wooster.    Over the years she had worked as a bookkeeper at the Fredericksburg Pottery, had done alterations at Beulah Bechtel’s, and had been a clerk at the William Annat Co. in Wooster.

Jean was a member of Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church and was active in the Women’s Task Force and their annual church bazaar.  She volunteered at the Fredericksburg Library and the Red Cross Blood Mobile.  Jean was an excellent seamstress, loved doing crafts, gardening, and traveling, but her greatest love was her family.  She always enjoyed attending grandchildren’s school and sporting events.  Jean lived her almost 101 years to the fullest, and she was truly blessed by God.

Surviving are her daughters and their husbands, Beth and Jeff Reed of Fredericksburg, Brenda and David Miller of Millersburg and Debbie and Keith Hewitt of Fredericksburg; son-in-law, Blinn Tracey of Wooster; 9 grandchildren, Dustin (Danica) Reed, Kirby (Jenny) Reed, Kent (Lori) Miller, Abigail (Matt) Yost, Ellen (Steve) Rohrer, Brian (Tanya) Hewitt, Brad (Melissa) Hewitt, Brett (Tina) Hewitt and Josh (Emily) Tracey; 18 great-grandchildren and 3 step great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Shirley McKelvey and Wilda McDaniel and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Denise Tracey and a brother, James McKelvey.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, June 1st at 10:00 a.m. at Fredericksburg East Cemetery followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 a.m. at Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church.  Pastor Darcy Miller will officiate.  Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com  Memorial contributions may be made to Fredericksburg Library, 108 S.
