Janice E. Skaggs, 82, of Wooster, Ohio, and formerly of Fredericksburg, went home to be with her Savior on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at Wooster Community Hospital after a brief illness.
Jan was born Dec. 1, 1937, in Ashland, Ohio, to the late Byron and Leta (Green) Swartz and was a 1955 graduate of Fredericksburg High School. On July 20, 1957, she married Nyle S. Skaggs, and they shared over 60 wonderful years together until his death on July 11, 2018. She had worked at Citizens Bank in Fredericksburg; at Rubbermaid, Inc., in the office; and at Ida Sue/Nick Amster Workshop.
A faithful follower of Christ, Jan played the piano and taught Sunday school at several churches and was active in various Bible-study groups. In recent years she and Nyle attended North Life Baptist Church in Wooster. Jan had helped with Release Time Education at Fredericksburg Elementary School, which was something she truly enjoyed. She also had taught piano lessons. Over the years Jan could be found studying her Bible, reading, gardening, rug hooking, quilting, scrapbooking, and working puzzles. She was always there to support her sons or grandchildren in their many activities and will be remembered for continuously being willing to help others.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law - Steven and Cindy Skaggs of Greenville, SC; Keith and Diana Skaggs of Rio Rancho, NM; Eric and Aimee Skaggs of Wooster; and Joel and Betsy Skaggs of Wooster - 16 grandchildren: Matthew, Benjamin, Kristie, Jason, Caleb, Weston, Bethany, Seth, Irina, Jonah, Daniel, Lindsey, Lauren, Luke, Caitlin and Maggie; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Nyle, by her parents and her only sister, Mildred “Millie” Brinkerhoff.
