Creston – James H. Wilson, 84 formerly of Creston, died Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at West View Healthy Living in Wooster.
James was born October 10, 1935, in Wayne Township to Ashley and Evelyn (Waters) Wilson and was a graduate of Smithville High School. He married Martha Gene Wertz on March 4, 1956, who he was married to for 60 years.
James worked for Hubacher Builders in Smithville for 18 years and Campbell Construction in Wooster for 21 years.
James served in the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, KY and Camp Irvin, Barstow, CA, 1957 to 1959. He was recalled and served at Fort Stewart, GA in 1962, during the Berlin Crisis.
He was a lifelong member of Wayne Presbyterian Church in Wooster where he had served as an elder and a trustee.
When he was younger, James played a lot of independent fast pitch softball, and basketball.
Surviving are his children, Vicky (Vaughn) Puster of Lakeville, Genevieve (Brian) Jordan of Frankfort, Ernest (Stacey) Wilson of Chesterfield Twp., Mich., and Dan Wilson of Geneva; three grand-children, 5 step-grandchildren, one great grandchild, and 8 step-great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Norma Wilson of Wooster, a sister-in-law, Evelyn Kramer of Burbank; a sister-in-law, Mary Wertz of Marshallville; a brother-in-law, John (Sharon) Wertz of Marshallville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; his brother Richard Wilson, his parents and an infant sister, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Harold Hauenstine, and brothers-in-law David Wertz and Matt Kramer.
Memorial services will be Saturday, June 13, at 1:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Robert Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the Wayne Presbyterian Church cemetery. Friends will be received one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Please observe social distancing and protection for everyone’s safety.
