James Edward Underwood, 92, of Wooster and formerly of Lodi passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020 at The Gardens of Cuyahoga Falls after a period of declining health.
Jim was born Aug. 7, 1928 in Berea to the late Robert and Magdalene (Seckel) Underwood and was a 1946 graduate of Lodi High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 - 1952. On Sept. 13, 1953 he married the former Dorene F. Wood and she preceded him in death on May 14, 2008. He joined the family business, Underwood’s Market in Lodi in 1946 which was started by his father and later owned and operated by Jim and his brother, Tom. He was an active member of the Lodi United Methodist Church and a member of the Harrisville Masonic Lodge. Jim was an Ohio Sports fan and was proud of his four grandchildren and their many accomplishments.
Surviving are his children and their spouses, Sheila and Bob Otto of Fairlawn and Jeff and Betty Underwood of Creston; his four grandchildren and their spouses, Brandon and Mallory Otto, Shannon and Eric Gregg, Stacey and Kellen Viar and Jill and Jon Peters; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet and Harry Baker and a brother, Thomas and Barb Underwood both of Lodi.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorene, his parents, his step-mother, Bess Underwood and a sister, Joyce Parkinson.
Private family services will be held at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with burial at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. There will be no calling hours.
