Howard W. Cramer, 95, of Fredericksburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021 at West View Health Living in Wooster after a brief period of declining health.

Howard was born Dec. 26, 1925 in Holmes County to the late Custer and Mary (Brown) Cramer and as a 1943 graduate of Fredericksburg High School.  Howard served in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1944 – 1946, having served in the European Theater.  He married the former Mary L. Herr on Feb. 23, 1947 and Mary preceded him in death on Sept. 18, 2006. Having worked in his younger years at the Fredericksburg Pottery, Lytle’s Hardware, Akron Brass and the Timken Company,  Howard served as the Director and President of the Citizen’s Bank in Fredericksburg.  When he retired, he was the Vice President of Wayne County National Bank in Wooster having a total of 25 years of service in the banking business. 

Active in the Fredericksburg Community, Howard was a member of Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church where he served as Treasurer of the Trustees and President of the 20-40 group.  He was a life member of the Fredericksburg American Legion, a member of the Garfield Lodge #528 F.&A.M. in Shreve and the Scottish Rite of Canton.  Howard served on the East Cemetery Assoc., the Fredericksburg Board of Public Affairs, the Fredericksburg Fire Dept., and the Fredericksburg Board of Trade. He served as Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Fredericksburg Homecoming and in 1989 was honored as Citizen of Year for his contributions to the Fredericksburg Community.  Howard and Mary enjoyed traveling and in retirement, they enjoyed 14 winters in Florida.  Howard was an avid golfer and in his lifetime he had two holes in one.  He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and David Iden of West Chester, OH; granddaughter, Kimberley Iden of Lexington, KY; a sister, Kathleen Santmyer of Mansfield; a brother-in-law, Douglas Carlson of Wooster and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother, Harold and sisters, Marlene Carlson and Shirley Ice.

Private family services will be held Monday at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with Pastor Darcy Miller officiating.  Burial will be in Fredericksburg East Cemetery.  Friends may call Sunday, Feb. 21st from 2-4 at the funeral home with the family not in attendance.  Tributes may be made shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com  Memorial contributions may be made to Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church, 201 N.
