Harold O. Gwin, Jr.

Harold O. Gwin, Jr., 81, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023 after a brief illness.

Harold was born in Wooster on April 6, 1941 to Harold Sr. and Helen (Smith) Gwin. He graduated from Wooster High School in 1959.  He later graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. He met Clare L. Johnston while working at the Lusk Candy Company, they were married on April 11, 1964.  She preceded him in death on Nov. 6, 2004.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 – 1967. After being discharged from the Army, he opened his Chiropractic office in Fredericksburg in 1968.  Doc Gwin was active in the Fredericksburg Community having served as Mayor, a member of the Village Council and as the Village Clerk for many years.  He was a member of the Fredericksburg Board of Trade and was a member of the Moreland United Methodist Church where  held various offices over the years.  Harold always loved spending time with his grandsons, was an avid reader, enjoyed watching old movies, mystery shows and playing cards. 

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Edith Gwin of Forest Hill, MD; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Amit Dhavale of Fairlawn; his five grandsons, Matt, Josh and Jimmy Gwin and Indy and Silas Dhavale; brother and sister-in-law, George and Fran Gwin of Wooster and his dear friend, Sharon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clare; son, Charles “Chuck” Gwin, his parents and sisters, Shirley Duncan and Janet Gwin.

Memorial services will be Saturday, March 18th at 2:00 p.m. at Moreland United Methodist Church with Rev. Jennifer Darling-Mellott officiating.  Friends may call Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
