Drexel Hess Obituary

Drexel E. Hess, 92, of Big Prairie and formerly of Burbank, died Sunday, March 29, 2020 at Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg.

Drexel was born March 17, 1928 at Cherry Ridge in Meigs County to the late Omer and Dorothy (Randolph) Hess and married the former Lucille A. Cochrell on March 15, 1948.  Lucille preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2015.  He had worked at Morton Salt in Rittman prior to working at WG Dairy Supply in Creston where he worked on bulk dairy equipment.  After retiring, he and Lucille moved from Burbank to Big Prairie where he worked at Lakeville Sand and Gravel.  Drexel was a man with a strong “work ethic”.  He enjoyed helping out at the Cochrell Farms in his spare time and he later volunteered at Save and Serve in Millersburg until a just few months ago.  He was a member of Burbank Faith United Methodist Church and Nashville United Methodist Church and had been attending the Killbuck Church of Christ.  Drexel enjoyed reading, working with stain glass and over the years had fished on Lake Erie, bowled at Town and Country Lanes and he and Lucille enjoyed camping and traveling.

Surviving are his children and their spouse, Janet and Herb Werstler of Wooster, Barb and Don Shaum of Glenmont, Richard and Elaine Hess of Ashland and Roger and Debra Hess of Apache Junction, AZ; grandchildren, Michael (Mindy) Werstler, Melissa (Matt) Rupp, Christopher (Jody) Shaum, Allison Curtis, Matt (Amanda) Hess and Zac (Sarah) Hess;  12 great-grandchildren  a great-great-grandson  and brothers, Eldred (Judy) Hess of Wooster and Don (Donna) Hess of Clinton

He was preceded in death by his wife, sisters, June Risley and Bertine Bain and brothers, Prentice and Myron
