Dorothy M. “Dottie” Varns, of Wooster, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 4, 2023 at OrrVIlla Retirement Center in Orrville after a period of declining health.
Dottie was born in St. Marys, WV to the late Archie Guy and Opal (Little) Brammer. She attended Creston High School and on Nov. 14, 1953 she married Roger E. Varns who preceded her in death on April 19, 1986. She was active in operating the family farm on West Highland Ave. and loved raising the beef cattle on the farm. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Wooster. Dottie enjoyed attending the Blue Grass Concerts in Lafayette and had hosted many Blue Grass parties at her home. She loved playing Dominos, cards, doing word searches and playing Word Whomp on the computer. She loved the outdoors and she could often be found mowing, gardening or working around her house.
Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law, Rochelle Varns of Canton and Suzanne nd Thomas Robart of North Lawrence; daughter-in-law, Debbie Varns of Wooster; grandchildren; Vicki Schellberg, Ann Schellberg, Tiffany Varns, Jamee Varns, Karen McKay and Kenneth Robart and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sons, Roger Dale in 2012 and Tracey in 2017; her parents and brothers and sisters, Leon Brammer, Dwight Brammer, Ruth Howard and Fonda Hilty.
Services will be Friday, Sept. 8th at 1:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Jeff Smith officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until time of services on Friday. Burial will be in Canaan Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, PO Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515.
