Donald Abbott Obituary

Donald E. Abbott, 87, of Wooster, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Wooster Community Hospital after a brief illness.

Don was born on May 9, 1935 in Medina to the late Edwin T. and Beulah L. (Beery) Abbott and graduated from Medina High School.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 – 1957 and on July 5, 1958 married Marilyn Wetzel who survives.  Don had been a dairy farmer for 25 years and had been a school bus driver for Medina, Cloverleaf and Norwayne School.  He later became a real estate agent having worked for Dale Wirth Realty in Creston. Don was a member of the Canaan Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council and was Sunday School Supt.  He was a member of Creston Lions Club where he had served several times as President.  He was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award and was inducted in the Lions Club District 13G Hall of Fame in 2007.  Don was also active in the Wayne County Farm Bureau and the Northwest Ohio District 17 Farm Bureau. In 1996 he was honored as a Creston Citizen of the Year for his service to the Creston Community.  Don enjoyed playing cards, doing jigsaw puzzles and working Sudoku Puzzles and loved watching sports.

Surviving is his wife, Marilyn; a sister-in-law, Laurie Abbott of Costa Rica and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Don was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Wesley and Charles.

Memorial services will be Friday, July 1st at 2:00 p.m. at Canaan Lutheran Church, 10851 Friendsville Rd., Creston, OH 44217 with Pastor Paul Thoms and Jim Yannayon officiating.  Friends will be received one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Canaan Lutheran Church or to the Charity of the Donors Choice.  Murray Funeral Home in Creston is handling arrangements.
