Deb Haldiman Figley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023 at Summa Hospice in Akron.
Deb was born in Wooster on March 30, 1957 and was raised in Creston. She graduated from Norwayne High School in 1975 where she was the class Valedictorian, was a cheerleader and played basketball. Deb earned her degree in Secondary Education for Language Arts and then her Master’s Degree in Adolescent Literacy. She taught at Edgewood Middle School in Wooster having retired in 2015 and later at St. Mary Catholic School from 2017 – 2022. One of her greatest joys in life was to teach children and watch their eyes light up.
Deb coached youth soccer for 8 years and loved her involvement in youth sports. Deb was also known as an incredible seamstress, frequently designing, sewing, knitting and crocheting clothes for herself and for others. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hiking and kayaking.
Deb is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Heidi Haldiman; daughter and son-in-law, Alyssa and Denver Williams; her four grandchildren who she absolutely adored, Haley, Cole, Emmett and Penny; her sisters and brother, Diane Stepp, Leslie (Stan) Berry and Took Wiles. Deb also wanted to thank her dear friends, Bobbi, Larry and Patty who brought so much joy to her life. She was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Jeannette and Kevin Hanzie.
Friends may call Thursday, Nov. 9th from 4-7 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston where services will be held on Friday, Nov. 10th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Akron Summa Hospice, 141 N. Forge St., Akron, OH 44304.
