David C. Hapner, 66, of Rittman, OH passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020 at Akron City Hospital after a brief illness.
Dave was born Sept. 30, 1954 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Clarence and Anne (DeFouw) Hapner and was a graduate of Grandville High School. He was a tooling engineer for several subsidiaries of General Motors and had made his home in Byron Center, MI moving to Rittman in 2017. He was a member of Byron Center First Christian Reformed Church and attended the Dalton Church Group in Ohio. Dave loved classic cars, golfing and sports and had been the Little League Director in Byron Center. He loved helping kids and he will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his wife, Susan (Patterson) Hapner who he married on Dec. 29, 2007; his children, Kristin (James) Overbeek of Byron Center, MI, Richard (Julie) Hapner of Byron Center, MI and James (Emily) Hapner of Grand Rapids, MI; 9 grandchildren; 3 step-children, Joseph (Joy) Patterson of Midland, TX, Jill (Nick) Gasser of Creston, OH and Jeanna (Tim) Miller of Creston, OH; 6 step-grandchildren; a brother, Dale (Bernie) Hapner of Grand Rapids, MI and a sister, Bonnie Cummings of Grandville, MI.
Dave was preceded in death by his first wife, Marcia (Morren) Hapner on Aug. 19, 2006 and a sister, Marilyn DeFouw.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 2nd 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Winchester Cemetery in Byron Center. Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com
