Carolyn S. Houghton of Wooster, Ohio and formerly of Creston, died at home on Friday Jan. 14, 2022, after a period of declining health, with her loving husband of 31 years at her side.
Carolyn was born January 21, 1940 in Creston to the late John and Edna (Perrin) Viall, sharing a birthday with her Mother. On March 12, 1991 she married Lester “Jack” Houghton and he survives.
Known as Susie to her family and friends, she graduated from Norwayne High School with the class of 1958.
In 1997, Carolyn retired from Westfield Companies with more than 25 years of dedicated service. She served her community well, having been a Den Mother for her sons' Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troops, organizing events for the Methodist Youth Group, and volunteering for the annual Creston Fish Fry and Ox Roast.
Susie loved to travel, having been to Canada and Mexico several times. She later went on to travel to all 49 of the Continental United States with Jack. She enjoyed going to concerts, especially country & western, collecting pictures and autographs of the performers.
Surviving are her sons, Ron, Bill, and Mike Hawkins; stepchildren, Carole (Lewis) Malcomb, Robert (Roberta) Houghton, Douglas Houghton; 8 grand children; 7 great-grandchildren. Special niece Beth McCourt and Family; and her dear lifelong friend Carol Ewing. Preceding in death, in addition to her parents was her son Dan Hawkins.
Private graveside services will be held at Sherwood Memorial Cemetery in Wooster with Bill, Mike, Jason, and Chris Hawkins and Lewis and Johnathan Malcomb serving as pallbearers.
