Charles Duane “Doby” Sayre, 96, of Burbank, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2023 at Burbank Parke Care Center after a period of declining health.
Doby was born on July 22, 1927 in Burbank to the late Joseph and Sylvia (Brown) Sayre and was a 1945 graduate of Burbank High School immediately after which he joined the Navy where served on the USS Saufley destroyer during World War II. He worked for Jewell Motor Parts, Feckley Ford in Medina and ultimately owned and operated Sayre Service Station in Burbank during which time he also was a substitute Burbank mail carrier. Doby enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid fast pitch softball player in his younger days, having played for a number of local teams. He was also a member of the Lodi Gun Club.
Surviving are three nieces, Becki Parachek of Temperance, MI, Sandi (mike) Kosko of Wadsworth and Julie (Jerry) Craycraft of Gove City as well as four nephews, Joe (Maggie) Sayre of Wadsworth, Gary (Robin) Daugherty of Burbank, Bruce (Marcia) Daugherty of Wooster and Rick (Bette) Daugherty of Bowerston and a brother-in-law, Lavon Daugherty of Sugarcreek. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joan Daugherty, brothers, Urlin and Robert; a nephew and spouse, Eugene and Judy Sayre and a longtime special friend, Priscilla Norton.
Per Duane’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 17th at 11:30 a.m. at Burbank Cemetery with John Murray officiating.
