Barbara Gail Thompson

Barbara Gail “Babs” Thompson, 78, of Rittman, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019 at Akron City Hospital after a brief illness.

Barbara was born April 24, 1941 in Youngstown to the late Charles “Cotton” and Pauline (Stone) Thompson of Sardis, OH.  She graduated from River High School in Hannibal, OH in 1959 and married Wayne Eugene Thompson on June 6, 1959.  Together they shared 60 wonderful years together. She and her husband along with many people fought and won the fight over the pipeline that was to run through their property and she served as the secretary for the Land Owners Assoc. for both the County and the State.   Barbara attended Grace Church in Wooster and is remembered for being a wonderful homemaker who brought great comfort to her family and friends through her cooking, baking and hospitality.  She enjoyed her flowers, mowing, and gardening but her greatest joys were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her much loved dog “PJ” and her 3 cats. 

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Wayne; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Ellen of Norton, Rick and Peggy of Rittman, Jeff of Kent and Scott and Deanna of Rittman; her 8 grandchildren, Derek (Amanda), Kylee, Carlie, Josh, Nick, Max, Luke and Ben; Great-grandchildren, Shayn and Eva; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Eileen Thompson of Jeromesville, Randy and Alice Thompson of Shreve, Mike and Jill Thompson of Wooster and Les and Cherrie Thompson of Wooster ; her sister, Sandy Thompson of Orrville; many nieces and nephews and her dear friends, Michelle Thompson, Peggy Richie, Betty Steiner and Norma Steiner. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Jerry and Chuck.

Services will be Monday, Sept. 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Church in Wooster with Pastor Steve Kern.  Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.  Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the church.  Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com  Memorial contributions may be made to Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Rd., Kanab, UT 84741.
