Obituary

 

Albert Louis Strodtbeck, 89, of Hudson and formerly of Creston and Wooster, passed away on April 25, 2022 at Laurel Lake Retirement Center in Hudson.

Al was born on Sept. 17, 1932 in Cleveland to Albert L. Sr. and Bertha (Roch) Strodtbeck.  He graduated from Parma High School, served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 – 1954 and attended Fenn College in Cleveland.  On Dec. 10, 1955 he married Barbara Brinker and they were married for 57 years until her death on Dec. 19, 2012. 

Al worked for the Laub Baking Company and Clark Asbestos Company.  He founded the Cascade Insulation Co. in 1983 and served as president until his retirement.  During this time he spent many happy years on his farm in Creston.

Volunteering was a very important part of Al’s life.  He was a Boy Scout Leader, served as President of Creston Lions Club and was President of the Wooster Hospital Auxiliary and cared for Greenpoint Garden at Wooster Hospital.  Al drove for the Shriners Hospitals for Children, was a member of the Rocky River Masonic Lodge #703 F.&A.M., the Al Koran Shrine and the Scottish Rite.  Al volunteered for decades for medical eye missions in Central America and he continued volunteering during his years at Laurel Lake.  He was a member of First Congregational Church in Hudson.  Always a gracious host, Al was loved and respected by all.

Al is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. David (Jill) Strodtbeck of Massillon, Captain Douglas (Kathleen) Strodtbeck of Collierville, TN and Dr. Paul (Jennifer Toh) Strodtbeck of Lake Forest, CA; grandchildren, Allison (Jason) Stergios of Denver, CO,  Adam (Jessica) Strodtbeck of Westerville, OH, Curt Strodtbeck of Johnson City, TN, Tom (Melissa) Strodtbeck of Burbank, CA, Natasha Brits of Keller, TX, Jason Strodtbeck, USMC currently stationed in Beaufort, SC and Amanda Strodtbeck of Lake Forest, CA; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Oliva Strodtbeck, Benjamin and Christopher Stergios, David, Danielle and Delaney Brits; a brother, Robert (Gerri) Strodtbeck; sister-in-law, Sharon Strodtbeck, special niece, Debbie (Jim) Lapp and dear friend and companion, Virginia “Ginger” Sorg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Nellie Strodtbeck, brothers, Eugene (Clara) Strodtbeck, William (Arlene) Strodtbeck and Neal Strodtbeck and sisters, Margaret (Norman) Worgull and Kathi (Darrell) Popovich.

In honor with Al’s wishes, there will be no services.  Al will be placed at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.  Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com   Memorial contributions may be made to Al Koran Shriners Hospital Transportation Fund, PO Box 81184, Cleveland, OH 44181.
