Wanda Jane Totten, 98, of Wooster, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022 at the Wayne County Care Center after a brief period of failing health.
Wanda was born on Jan. 18, 1924 in Pleasant Home to the late Elmer and Nell (Driebelbis) Swanson and was a 1941 graduate of Congress High School. On Jan. 17, 1948 she married James Totten and he preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 1954. Wanda was a rural mail carrier for the Postal Service in Creston for 26 years until her retirement and had made her home in Canaan for 46 years prior to moving to Wooster in 1998. She was a member of the former Canaan United Methodist Church where she was the Choir Director, Organist and a member of the United Methodist Women. She had been a poll worker for the Wayne County Board of Elections for many years and was an avid bowler having bowled many leagues in the Creston area from 1958 – 2007. In 1999 she was inducted into the United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame in Medina. Wanda loved crocheting and watching the Cleveland Indians.
Surviving are her children, Phillip and wife Sharon Totten of Seville and Pamela and husband Wayne Uhler of Fredericksburg; three grandsons, James Ryan and wife Suzanne Totten of Copley, Nathan and wife Amanda Totten of Seville and Aaron Uhler of Fredericksburg; great-grandchildren, Victoria and Benjamin Totten and special friends and caregivers, Jill Stoler and Victoria Freshman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James and a brother, Wayne Swanson.
Services will be Saturday, Oct. 15th at 1:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home with Pastor Lori Burdette-Steele and John Murray officiating. Burial following in Canaan Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne County Care Center, 876 S. Geyers Chapel Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
