Obituary:

Walter Perry Thompson, 80, of Medina, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 20, 2016 following an accident at his home. He was born July 19, 1935 in Mt. Ulla Twp., Rowan Co., NC to the late Joseph B. and Janie Lee Benfield Thompson and served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 – 1959. On March 26, 1960 he married Sandra Jordan who survives and had made his home in Lafayette Township for the past 46 years. Walter retired from LTV Steel in 1999 after 40 years and was the train engineer at the Lodi Outlet Mall. He enjoyed collecting toy jeeps and had restored an old military jeep that he donated to the Military Museum in North Carolina. Surviving are his wife, Sandra; children, Kimberly Thompson, Laura Ann Thompson of Dixon, TN, Eric (Marie) Thompson of Wilmington, NC and Christopher Thompson of Seville; a granddaughter, Ariel Thompson and a sister Sybelle Vanderfolrd of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter McKenzie Thomspon, his parents and 15 brothers and sisters. Services will be Wednesday, May 25th at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston where friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
