Walter Jay “Butch” Stefanko, Jr., 73, of Creston, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 after a period of declining health.
Butch was born on Aug. 18, 1948 in Wadsworth to Walter Sr. and Lois (Texter) Stefanko and was a 1966 graduate of Norwayne High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1969 – 1971 having been stationed in Germany. On Dec. 7, 1973 Butch married Roberta “Bobbie” Schaad and they shared nearly 50 years together. He retired from Volvo GM in Orrville and in retirement worked for Stahl Electric. Butch was a member of Wadsworth Eagles #2117, Creston Moose Lodge 1224 and Creston American Legion Post 497. He was a Cleveland Browns and NASCAR fan and he always enjoyed mowing and working around his home.
He will be missed by his wife, Bobbie; daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Stephen Shane of Wooster; his grandson, Evan Shane who he always was so proud of; sisters and brother, Barbara Alday of Alachua, FL, Mike and Janice Stefanko of Elizabethtown, KY and Janet and Richard McCormick of Wooster; an uncle, Richard Stefanko of Rittman and several nieces and nephews to whom he always enjoyed being known as “Uncle Butch”.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call Sunday, July 24th from 1-3 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston where services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be at a later time at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
