Wade E. Akers, 92, of Creston, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 after a sudden illness.
Wade was born on Oct. 11, 1932 in Prichard, WV to Freelin and Willie Mellie (Gilkerson) Akers and attended Fort Gay High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1955 during the Korean War and retired from General Motors in 1986. Wade married Mary Phillips on Sept. 16, 1967 and they had made their home in Brunswick, Wadsworth and Rittman as well as during the Winter months in Florida. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2016. On Feb. 14, 2018 he married Carol Sickle and they had made their home in Creston for the past several years. He was a member of Rittman Community Freewill Baptist Church and when Wade wasn’t shareing the Lord with others, he enjoyed gardening and cars. Wade had a great love for people and he will forever be missed.
Surviving is his wife, Carol; children, Wade Keith Akers, Janet K. Akers and her husband Larry Diosy, Jennifer and her husband Scott Miller, Brooke Iannetta, Teresa and her husband Keith Leibee; grandchildren, Robert Wade Rininger, Nikole Lowe, Jordan Hall, Jeremiah Scheider, Joshua Scheider, Dominic Iannetta, John Iannetta, Loutino Marrero, Matthew, Leibee, Michael Leibee and Kathryn Kring; 6 great-grandchildren; Carol’s children, Steven Sickle, Kimberly and Alan Blevins, Michelle and Mike Finan and Janet and Joe Kohler; brother, William Roy and Kathy Akers,sister, Jenny Priest and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; children, Jim Hatten and Brenda Phillips; sisters and brothers. Martha Jane Hooser, Molly Smith, Alma Brickey, Jay, Homer, Ervin, Doc and infant siblings Andrew, Garland Ray, Corene and Betty Akers.
Services will be Friday, March 28th at 12:00 noon at Rittman Community Freewill Baptist Church with Pastors Steve Conn and John Castle officiating. Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 12:00 noon. Murray Funeral Home in Creston is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wade’s church, Rittman Community Freewill Baptist Church
