Violet Rose (Widmer) Whitmore

April 23, 1919 — May 23, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Violet Rose Whitmore (nee Widmer) announces her passing on May 23rd, 2024, at the amazing age of 105. She passed away peacefully in sleep after a long and fulfilling life and will be lovingly remembered by many whose lives she touched.

She was born in New Martinsville West Virginia, to parents William F. Widmer and Ica Mae Widmer (nee Gamble), and was one of 8 children. She was the loving and devoted wife of Max M. Whitmore who preceded her in death on November 4th, 2002, after 66 years of marriage. Their union blessed them with 6 children, Max E. Whitmore 1937, Suzanne Lee Shoen 1938, Jean Marie Hill and Judith Mae Bulow, twins, 1940, Stuart Scott Whitmore 1951, and Mary Jo Nieman 1953. Sadly, Jean Marie Hill preceded her in death on February 13, 2007 and Stuart Scott Whitmore on July 18th, 2022. "Vi" will be remembered, not only for being an exceptionally devoted mother to her children, grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren, but for her exceptional devotion to church and community.  She had a great love and talent in playing the organ and piano for many services and events, not only in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, but also where they retired for 18 years, in Hampstead, North Carolina at the Hampstead United Methodist Church. She graduated from Kent State University, with her husband Max, both receiving a real estate license, and sold many homes in the area.

Our heartfelt thanks and love go out to the staff of Otterbein Senior Care Center in Union Township, Ohio for their loving and compassionate care during her last few years of life.

Services will be held at LeRoy United Methodist Church in Westfield Center, Ohio on June 1st, 2024. Visitation is at the church at 1:00, with funeral services to follow at 2:00. Rev. Jennifer Whitmore will officiate and burial will follow across the street at Westfield Center Cemetery. Following burial, we shall have a small reception back at the church, serving lite food and drinks. All are welcome.

Flowers may be sent to Murray Funeral Home 173 S. Main St. Creston Ohio 44217.
