Thomas R. Butler, Sr.

Thomas R. Butler, Sr., 74, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Smithville-Western Care Center.

He was born on April 24, 1949 in New Port, TN to the late Oscar and Helen (Norris) Butler.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War and worked as an auto mechanic and later was a truck driver.  Tom enjoyed fishing, hunting and old cars and had also enjoyed flying with his brother, Tony.

Surviving is his son, Thomas Jr. of Mansfield; daughter, Tina Kullman and Allen Fry of Fredericksburg; grandchildren, Thomas Butler, III of Brunswick, Ashley Kullman in Wooster, William Kullman and Justin Bruce both of Fredericksburg and Lydia Kullman and Michael Kullman both of Akron; great-grandson, Elijah Cole Butler; sister-in-law, Betty Butler of New Philadelphia, niece, Toni Jean Butler of New Philadelphia; 6 great-nieces and his former wife and mother of his children, Karen (Thayer) Gillespie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Tony Butler and nephew, David Butler.

At Tom’s request, no services will be held and he will be taken home to Tennessee.  The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Wellspring Hospice and Smithville-Western Care Center for the care and love given to Tom.
