Susan L. Hapner

Susan L. (Thompson) Hapner was many things, but above all she was a woman who loved God, loved her family, and showed that love best through care, prayer, and food made with her own hands. She passed peacefully on Friday, January 23rd, 2026, in Tyler, Texas, leaving behind hearts-forever shaped by her presence.

Her faith was not loud, but it was constant. She trusted God in the ordinary moments and the hard ones, turning to prayer as naturally as breathing. She read her Bible daily, and leaned on scripture for comfort and guidance, and believed deeply in grace, forgiveness, and doing good quietly. She lived what she believed.

As a mother and grandmother, she gave herself completely. She worried, hoped, prayed, and showed up- again and again. She offered advice when asked and loved wholeheartedly. Her children and grandchildren always knew where they stood with her; safely within her care and her prayers.

The kitchen was the heart of her home. Nothing was ever store-bought if she could help it. Bread was kneaded by hand, meals were prepared with patience, and recipes lived more in her memory than on paper. Cooking was her way of caring for people, of making them feel safe, welcome, and at home. No one left her table hungry, and many left comforted in ways they didn't realize they needed.

She found joy in the simple, meaningful things: feeding others, keeping traditions alive, and gathering her family together. Her legacy lives on with well-worn recipes, familiar prayers, and the knowledge that love of family js something you create-slowly, carefully, and from the heart.

She is survived by her children Joseph (Joy) Patterson of Tyler, Texas. Jill (Nick) Gasser of Creston, Ohio. Jeanna (Tim) Miller of Tyler, Texas. Her grandchildren, Dakota, Eva, Jackson Patterson, Ethan and Carter Gasser, Tyler (Hayley) Slaubaugh, and Tierra (Joe) Miller, and great-granddaughter Emerson Miller. Who will miss her deeply and honor her by living with the faith, generosity and devotion she modeled every day. We know she is now at peace and welcomed home by the Lord she served so faithfully.

She is proceeded in death by her husband David Hapner. Her parents Richard and Jean Thompson. Her brothers Ron, Joe, Tom & Val, and Matt Thompson.

Services will be on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., at Murray Funeral Home in Creston. Friends may call from 3:00 until time of services. A family graveside service will be held at Creston Maple Mound Cemetery.
