Steven A. Sigler, 73, of Shreve passed away on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021 at Wooster Community Hospital after a period of declining health.
Steve was born on Oct. 26, 1947 in Wooster to the late Joseph A. and Virginia (Shaffer) Sigler and was a 1966 graduate of Wooster High School. He entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam from 1967 – 1969 as a door gunner and helicopter mechanic.
Being a mechanic became Steve’s life work. He worked at Chatlin Motors before entering the military and in 1970 he became employed at Smetzer Tire Center where he had just retired after 51 years of service. For many years he ran the roadside service truck changing truck and tractor tires and tractor tires for the local farmers all over Wayne County. For the past 30 plus years he has been the main front end and alignment guy. Steve always took great pride in his work. He had a great passion for the auto industry and enjoyed NASCAR racing, and collecting muscle cars. His favorite ride was his 1938 Chevy that he drove to car shows and cruise-ins. He had been a member of the Wooster Cruisers, the Knights Car Club and the KC’s Kruisers.
Steve was a man of God and attended GodsWord Bible Church in Big Prairie.
Surviving are his wife, Karen (Ickes) Sigler who shared his passion of cars, son, Christopher (Toni) Sigler; Karen’s sons who loved Steve as their father, Eric (Amy) Woodruff, Jay (Crystal) Sigler and Aaron (Rita) Sigler; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol (Joe) Stickle; brother, Dan (Kathy) Sigler and nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his many car friends and loyal customers.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, Oct. 24th at 3:00 p.m. at the Pioneer Cemetery on W. Lincoln Way, Wooster with Pastor Josiah Martin officiating. A celebration of his life will be held following the graveside services at Oak Chapel United Methodist Church, 4203 W. Old Lincoln Way, Wooster from 4-6 p.m..
