Steven Linton Numbers, 72, of Brunswick Hills and formerly of Creston, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 10, 2025, in Chapel Hill, NC.
Steve was born in Lodi, Ohio on Aug. 10, 1953, to Linton L. and Margaret A. (Sykes) Numbers and was a 1971 graduate of Norwayne High School. He earned a degree in Turfgrass Management from Penn State and spent 35 years at Westfield Country Club where he was the Superintendent of the golf courses. Steve retired in 2012 and was a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Associations. On Sept. 24, 2005, Steve married Susan L. Heasley, and they shared 20 wonderful years together. Steve always had a love of music, having played guitar and sang in multiple bands, groups, special events and at churches over the years. He was a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International Cleveland/Akron Chapter and was a great fan of Poco and Richie Furay. A faithful member of Creston Presbyterian Church, Steve had been a longtime member and past President of Creston Community Service Club having worked the annual Ox Roast and Monday night Bingo. Steve enjoyed working around his home doing landscaping, being a cat dad and will be remembered for always sharing joy, laughter and love with his many friends and family members.
Surviving is his loving wife, Susan; his daughter, Angela Numbers of Winnabow, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Derrick and Gosia Numbers of Aberdeen, NC; three step-sons, Josh Shriver and his wife Julia, Ian Shriver and Alec Shriver and Kirstein all of the Berea area; grandchildren, Connor Willis, Logan Numbers, Lucy Shriver, Scarlett Shriver, Lincoln Krause and Selah Krause; his sister, Beverly Haven of Leesburg, FL; brother-in-law, Ben Hartzler of Rittman as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his grandson, LJ Numbers, his parents and sisters, Barbara Zuber and Sandra Hartzler.
Services will be Saturday, Nov. 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at Creston Presbyterian Church with Pastor Mike VanArsdale officiating. Friends may call on Friday, Nov. 21st from 2-7 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Tumor Foundation, PO Box 7247, Philadelphia, PA 19170-0001.
