Steve Alvin Yurick, 81, of Sterling, passed away on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster after a period of declining health.
Steve was born on Aug. 27, 1944, in Lodi to Steve and Mary Katherine (Lance) Yurick and was a 1962 graduate of Norton High School. He honorably served in the United States Coast Guard from 1962 – 1987 and was a Marine Inspector at the time of his retirement. On Sept. 5, 1964, he married the love of his life, Nancy Lynn Myers and they were happily married for over 61 years. Steve had owned Wooster Skateland for 16 years and had also worked at Regal Ware in Wooster.
Steve was a member of the Warrant Officers Association. He loved boating and fishing on Lake Erie, camping, was an avid reader and enjoyed helping Nancy in the garden.
Surviving is his wife, Nancy; daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Bill Benton of Burbank; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Dawn Yurick of New Franklin; granddaughters, Cassandra Adkins, Christina Hill, Tara Becker and Lauren Yurick; great-grandchildren, Selah, Gideon and Simon Adkins and Carter and Oaklynn Becker; brother, Robert and his wife Mickie Yurick of Doylestown; sisters, Mary and her husband Lester Swiger and Marie Morris of Norton and Linda Matheney of Akron and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Judy Ball.
Services will be Tuesday, Jan. 20th at 9:30 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Dave Purdy officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Friends may call on Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sterling Fire Department, 13845 Kauffman Ave., Sterling, OH 44276.
