Sidney Dale “Sid” Gordon, 74, of Rittman, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016 at his home following a unexpected illness.
He was born June 11, 1942 in Lodi to the late Nelson and Patricia (Reynolds) Gordon and was a 1960 graduate of Norwayne High School. He attended Ashland College and had worked at Rubbermaid and as a deputy for the Wayne County Sherriff's Dept. and Creston Police Dept. in his early years. Sid spent over 30 years as a line haul driver with Wooster Motor Ways, Consolidated Freight and at ABF Freight where he retired from after 10 years of service. He was a member of Creston Presbyterian Church and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians. Sid had a great love for his pets and nature but his family was the most important part of his life and they were always number one.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Jean of 46 years whom he married May 15, 1970; his children, Shari “Sunny” Wells of Wooster, Todd Gordon of Rittman, Jim (Julie) Gordon of Seaford, VA and Scott (Jan) Gordon of Hamilton; 10 grandchildren, Dustin Blake, Dane Blake, Mitchell Gordon, Michalla Gordon, Ian Gordon, Claire Scott Gordon, Annalee Gordon, Samuel Gordon, Mariana Gordon and Elaina Gordon; great-grandchildren, Emma, Kylie and Mykelti Blake; sisters, Sally (Dennis) Goode of New Boston, NH and Gwen (Woody) Mendenhall of Zanesville and a special nephew, Michael Justice of Rittman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lucinda Gordon.
Services will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Michael Van Arsdale officiating. Burial will be in Creston Maple Mound Cemetery.
