Shirley Jean Troxell, 93, of Creston, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 1, 2022 while in the comfort of her home after a period of declining health.
Shirley was born in Wooster on Feb. 27, 1929 to the late Harry and Cora (Koontz) Yates. She graduated from Smithville High School in 1947 and married William C. Troxell on May 14, 1955. Bill preceded her in death on March 20, 2000. Shirley was a wonderful homemaker who cared for her husband and children and had also worked at Snyder Camera Shop in Wooster She was a faithful member of Wooster Church of the Nazarene where she had taught Sunday School and had served as a pianist for several years. As a pianist, she played for several trios and quartets that had performed on the radio. She enjoyed writing and some of Shirley’s works were published in the Reader’s Digest and in Woman’s World. Shirley will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are her three children and their spouses, Diane and Mark Clark of Wooster, Mike and Crystal Troxell of Wooster and Don and Teresa Troxell of Sterling; her much loved grandchildren, Justin Clark, Nicole Clark, Dustin Troxell, Brandon Troxell, Logan Troxell and Riley Troxell and sisters and brothers, June Shaw of Orrville, Lowell Yates of Medina, James (Trudy) Yates of Florida, Eleanor ((Jim) Hohenshil of Smithville and Barbara (Harold) Turner of Rittman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; brothers, Melvert Yates and Robert Yates and a sister, Donna Troxel.
Services will be Thursday, April 7th at 1:00 p.m. at Wooster Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Joel Yates officiating. Burial will be in the Smithville Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the church.
