S. Dean Baker

S. Dean Baker, 91, of Wooster, passed away on Monday, Oct. 28, 2024 at West View Healthy Living in Wooster after a period of declining health.

Dean was born on March 25, 1933 in Glenmont to Sylvester and Mildred (Stallman) Baker and married Etta Jean Waitkunas on Oct. 17, 1953.  Jean preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 2022.  Dean and Jean were blessed with two sons, James Dean and Jeffrey Lee.   Dean served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1953 -1957 and in April of 1957 he started with Allstate Insurance having retired in 1995 after 38 years of service.  In retirement Dean and Jean enjoyed traveling and had lived in Arizona for 20 years.  Dean loved to play softball which he did until the age of 81 and enjoyed golfing. He was a member of First Church of God in Wooster.

Surviving is his son, Jim and his wife Cyndi Baker of Wooster and Jim’s children, Shawn (Misty) Baker, Ashley (Kevin) Kindy and Jeremy Baker. Sadly, his son, Jeff preceded him in death and he was blessed with a lovely wife, Debbie and they had three children, Zachary (Nicole) Baker, Alex (Justine) Baker and Seth Baker who also preceded him in death. Also surviving are 5 great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Joe and his wife Kim Waitkunas of Wooster.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, Son, Jeff, Grandson, Seth and 2 sisters and a brother.

Private family services will be held at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with burial at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
