Ruth Arlene Slater, 84, of Rittman, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Oct. 17, 2022 after a brief illness. Ruth was born on June 10, 1938 near Sterling to John and Mary (Calame) Schorle and married William D. Slater on Nov. 4, 1955. Bill preceded her in death on April 19, 2017. Ruth retired from Wayne Information Referral Exchange having helped many people with public assistance and personnel needs. She later worked for Wayne County Prosecutor Atty. Martin Frantz helping with victim assistance and grant writing. Ruth spent a lifetime helping others and loving her family. She truly enjoyed her grandkids and she enjoyed working in her flower beds around her home. Surviving are her children, William Slater of Creston, Jacqulyn Magyar of Sterling, Thomas Slater and Melissa Blough of Rittman, Sandra and Rich Smith of Glenmont and Gregory and Lora Slater of Creston; grandchildren, Amanda and Stephen Newhouse, James Magyar, Matthew Magyar, Chasity and Nick Burton, Codey and Ashley Slater, Caidian Jensen, Jason Slater, Jessica Slater and Chadd Voshel; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry and Betty Schorle of Seville and Kenneth and Sharon Schorle of Tennessee; sisters-in-law, Gaye Winebarger, Carolyn Schorle and Linda Schorle and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, son-in-law, James Magyar, grandson, Adam Percun; her parents and sisters and brothers, Janet and Art Maibach, Gene Schorle, Joanne Cohen, Bernard “Pete” Schorle, Robert Schorle and Tommy Schorle. Services will be Saturday, Oct. 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home Creston where friends may call from 12:00 noon until time of services. Burial will be in Creston Maple Mound Cemetery.
