Fredericksburg

Roy E. Plant, 85, of Fredericksburg passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Brookdale Wooster after a brief illness. Roy was born Aug. 20, 1933 in Shreve to the late Lloyd and Harriett (Kirshner) Plant and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  Having left school to join the Army he was later awarded an honorary diploma from Waynedale High School.  On Aug. 14, 1978 he married Joann (Carr) Plant and she preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 2016.  He had owned his own truck for several years having worked for R.E. Bower Trucking and later worked at Fredericksburg Elementary School where he had been the custodian.  He had also been the assistant Town Marshall in Fredericksburg for several years.  Roy served on the Fredericksburg Fire Dept. for over 60 years having been a Fire Fighter/EMT and later served as a dispatcher for the Department.  He was always dedicated and committed to the department and the community and was a member of the Fredericksburg American Legion.  Roy always enjoyed driving his yellow 55 Buick or his red 65 Chevy Truck in parades and will be missed in the Fredericksburg Community. Surviving are his daughters, Becky (Randy) Houston of Wooster, Patricia (Bruce) Whitworth of Shreve and Peggy (Dave) Didinger of Big Prairie; 6 grandchildren, Layne, Samantha, Josh, Jesse, Holy and Ryan; 5 great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Polly (Bob) Yoder of Shreve and Laura Lemon and Jan Lemon both of Fredericksburg; 3 step-grandchildren, Caryn, Michael and Tony; 4 step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Wesley Plant and Donald Plant both of Shreve; a sister, Grace (Bill) Watson of Jeromesville and a special friend, Norma Hanna and her family of Fredericksburg. Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Joann, brothers, Edward, Fred, Lloyd Jr. and Guy and sisters, Lavina Bower Case, Vera Hicks, Margaret Orewiler and infant Harriett. Services will be Thursday, July 25th at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with burial following in Fredericksburg East Cemetery.  Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com  Memorial contributions may be made to Fredericksburg Fire Dept., 288 N.
