Roy Lee Maxwell, 74, of Apple Creek passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. Roy was born Jan. 27, 1947 in Lodi and was the son of the late Charles D. and Betty Jane (Kain) Maxwell.  He graduated from Norwayne High School in 1965 and on July 1, 1989 married the former Kelly Rae Smith who survives.  He retired from Timken Co, worked previously at Eaton Corp. and owned and operated Maxwell Exxon Station in Burbank. The #1 Cleveland Browns Fan and a member of the Browns Backers, Roy was essential in helping bring the Browns back to Cleveland.  He single handedly brought back the Brownie Elf and a highlight in his life was attending the last Cleveland Championship Game in 1964.  Roy was an avid softball player having played on several teams including his own Maxwell Exxon Team; a highlight being the famous purple hearse that Roy drove to each game.  A member of the Creston Moose Lodge and an avid mechanic, Roy will be remembered most for his love of his kids and grandkids who he supported in all their sporting activities. A great joy for Roy in his last three years was working at the Fredericksburg Elementary he spoke fondly of brightening the kids days and how they brightened his. Roy was a legend and he will be greatly missed by his faithful companion Gemma and his family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Kelly; his children and their spouses, Jodi and Steve Kiko of North Lawrence, Roy “Duffy” and Tiffany Maxwell of Burbank, Heather and Ron Scott Kurtz of Wooster, Nick and Stephanie Maxwell of Wooster, Melissa and Joe McClellan of Mason and Mackenzie Rae Maxwell of Apple Creek; his 14 grandchildren, Morgan, Bart, Bryce, Brock, the late Brody, Bridget, Brookelyn, Brieona, Andrew, Madison, Zoey, Chaz, Maxwell and Eleanor; three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Addison and Bennett, his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Tom Caperton of Apple Creek, half-sister, Alice Beavers of Arizona, several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. His parents, an infant sister Nancy and grandson, Brody preceded him in death. Friends may call Saturday, Dec. 11th from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston where Pastor Dan Hostetler will conduct services at 3:00 p.m.   Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com  Memorial contributions may be made to Cleveland Clinic Hospice.
