Robert Smeller

Robert L. “Bob” Smeller, age 83, of Hickory, North Carolina, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025 at his home in following a period of declining health.

Bob was born on Sept. 8, 1941 in Barberton to the late Louis and Barbara (Johanyak) Smeller.  He graduated from Norwayne High School in 1959 and served in the Ohio National Guard for six years.  On October 1, 2011 he married Maria Warren and she survives.  Bob spent 42 years working for Metropolitan Life Insurance in Wooster and later in Hickory NC.

In addition to his wife, Maria, he is survived by sister, Judy Davisson; brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Kyra Smeller; sisters-in-law, Jane Smeller and Orfie Miller and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leslie Smeller and Thomas Miller; sister Kathryn Smeller; and brother-in-law, Blaine Davisson.

Services will be Tuesday, April 1, at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with burial following at Canaan Cemetery.  Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
